Anthropic Officially Launches Claude for Microsoft 365, Supporting Excel, Word, and PowerPoint With Outlook in Beta

US-based Anthropic announced on May 7 the general availability of "Claude for Microsoft 365," an AI assistant that operates directly within Microsoft's suite of productivity applications. Features for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, previously available only through a public beta, have now been upgraded to full release, while the Outlook function continues as a public beta. The service is available at no additional cost to existing subscribers of Claude's paid plans.

The service embeds Claude directly within each application, allowing users to work seamlessly across them while maintaining contextual continuity. On the same day, Anthropic also unveiled 10 AI agent templates designed for financial services firms, aiming to significantly enhance the tool's practical utility in business environments.

Feature Details by Application

Claude for Excel enables users to ask questions about specific cells, update assumptions within existing formulas without breaking them, and build financial models from scratch. Its key advantage lies in facilitating complex data analysis and simulations through an interactive, conversational interface.

Claude for PowerPoint can create new slides within templates, edit selected content, and generate native charts and diagrams, dramatically improving the efficiency of presentation creation.

Claude for Word allows users to edit documents using the track changes feature and reply within comment threads. It can update content while adhering to a company's style guide, helping to maintain brand consistency.

Claude for Outlook (beta) can organize an inbox, draft replies waiting to be sent, and search for free time across multiple calendars—all from a single prompt.

These features work in concert. For instance, after sorting emails, a user can open a summary in Word, build a model in Excel, create a presentation in PowerPoint, and send a review invitation, with context automatically carried over through each step of the workflow. All edits are designed to be reviewed and approved by the user, and the tool can apply brand styles, including slide masters, heading styles, formula structures, and numbering.

Financial Services Templates Also Released

On May 5, Anthropic released 10 AI agent templates for the financial services industry. These target time-consuming tasks such as pitch book creation, KYC file screening, and month-end book closing. They are provided as cookbooks for Claude Cowork, Claude Code plugins, and Claude Managed Agents.

Anthropic also strengthened its integration with financial data sources. It added new connectors for Dun & Bradstreet, Financial Modeling Prep, Guidepoint, IBISWorld, SS&C Intralinks, Third Bridge, and Verisk. Additionally, Moody's, through its MCP app, now provides credit ratings and data on more than 600 million public and private companies, supporting compliance, credit analysis, and business development.
